pale-lit hours

So November is upon us. Hopefully it won't be as bleak as this description in Alaska.

'November was here, and it frightened her because she knew what it brought - cold upon the valley like a coming death, glacial wind through the cracks between the cabin logs. But most of all, darkness. Darkness so complete even the pale-lit hours would be choked.' Eowyn Ivey The Snow Child

What are your plans for November?

  1. That really doesn't sound inviting! I read The Snow Child at the beginning of the year and liked it - very enchanting book.

I'm glad to be in November. I have lots of days off because of our holidays - Veterans Day and Thanksgiving - and I love the start of the holiday season.

  2. Joan, I read that book recently and I will never forget the author's very real descriptions of the snow, the cold, and the darkness. I am looking forward to changing the clocks this weekend, since I am an early riser and hate waking up in the dark. Have a good weekend! By the way, have you been enjoying Downton Abbey, season three? We get it here in the U.S. in January.

    1. Sunday - yes I am enjoying Downton though they seem to be adding lots of story lines to it. Maggie Smith continues to be wonderful.

  3. I was out in the sunshine this morning, getting some pre-winter gardening done, it's so good to feel the sun on your face at this time of year - even if it's the low winter kind, storing that vit D for the long winter months ahead...
