Whilst away I read The Paris Wife by Paula McLain about Hadley Richardson, Ernest Hemingway's first wife. It's made me look out my copy of Fiesta:The Sun Also Rises to see which pages are turned down.

'I say that is wine,' Brett held up her glass. 'We ought to toast something. "Here's to royalty".'
'This wine is too good for toast-drinking, my dear. You don't want to mix emotions up with wine like that. You lose the taste.' Ernest Hemingway Fiesta: The Sun Also Rises

Do you like emotions with your drink? I know I want to mix memories with my drink, so I think that means I want emotions with it?

  1. I'd like a whisky on the rocks, hold the emotions? Must admit I never had mixed the two before. Nostalgia, yes: the sight of advocaat will always take me back to Christmases with my grandparents.
Food though? Now that's a very different matter..!
Hope you had a great celebratory weekend.

    1. Tonia - yes maybe nostalgia is a bit word for it...

  2. I really just want to enjoy the drink, whatever it may be. But for a celebration, it's always nice to make a toast. Another great quote, love that book by Hemingway, makes me realize I need to read it again.

    1. Sunday - I now want to re read it again too & yes to just enjoying the drink. A toast to enjoyment!

Ooh how lovely more stripes on the page...
Thank you for taking the time.
