Love my age

Whilst on holiday Twin and I celebrated our fortieth birthday. Here's what Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire thought about turning forty.

"I was 40 years old last June and at that age one must use oneself to personal disasters. I have learnt however to love my age, and not be ashamed of it..." Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire letter to Mary Grey circa 1798 in Georgiana by Amanda Foreman

How do you feel about your age?

  1. Happy Belated birthday to you and your sister! I think 40 is a lovely time in a woman's life. I can't quite believe, but am also quite excited that I'll be 50 later this month. Let the good times roll :)

    2. Nothing quite as exotic as yours and my daughter will be busy until summer hols, but we have a lunch planned at Verru and also in August a trip to Hampton Court for The Wild, The Beautiful and the Damned - so unlike my own dear home life ;) and also Lewes for Charleston and Monk's House. All places I've never been and don't want to wait another year to do so! As I get older, I begin to realise how much I haven't done yet - exiciting :)

  2. Happy birthday, I hope you had a fab time with twin. 40 was not a big a deal to me as 30 was. 30 felt like the end of youth and time to be a grown up. Now I am 2 years shy of 50 I am wondering how I will celebrate the big 5-0.

  3. Happiest of birthdays to you - how lovely to be able to spend it on holiday! Hope you had a great time.
Hurrah for getting older too! I never-ever-nay-not-never want to see 16 again, nor even 26.

    1. Tonia - Thankfully our birthday often falls in half term & so no work but being away made it all the more special. Yes I don't ever want to be under 30 again!
