Carry Her Over the water
Carry her over the water,
And set her down under the tree,
Where the culvers white all day and all night,
And the winds from every quarter
Sing agreeably, agreeably, agreeably of love.
Put a gold ring on her finger,
And press her close to your heart,
While the fish in the lake their snapshots take,
And the frog, that sanguine singer,
Sing agreeably, agreeably of love.
The streets shall all flock to your marriage,
The houses turn round to look,
The table and chairs say suitable prayers,
And the horses drawing your carriage
Sing agreeably, agreeably of love.
We'll be offered these drinks.
drink Hmm now what shall I wear? |
More importantly, what will we eat?? Have a lovely weekend - hope its a lot sunnier than the one up here is showing signs of being!
ReplyDeleteOooh yes. So long as a fruit wedding cake with icing & marzipan and possibility of more than one slice I'll be very happy!
DeleteThat bride photo is too beautiful! I want to fill my house with garlands now. Have a lovely weekend x
ReplyDeleteI know the garlands are amazing, trying to work out if I could make them for a party. Hope your weekend is lovely as well.
DeleteLovely poem - didn't know of it before now. Would chose something plain, simple, well-cut, elegant - not the meringue I chose 28 years ago! Have a good weekend. XCathy
ReplyDeleteYes how fashions change. I wonder what I'll think of my dress in 28 years time?
DeleteYes, the dress looks perfect, and what about the shoes? Lovely poem. Thanks for sharing th images and the poem as I move into the week of celebrating 21 yrs with my man.
ReplyDeleteOoh happy celebrations & congratulations for 21 years together.
ReplyDeleteI love the poem! The rhythm of it is so interesting. I went to a beautiful winter wedding in December and it was a perfect, simple ceremony, but it was outside so I was bundled up.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely a winter outside wedding... Perfect for buying a new coat or scarf.
DeleteI love that dress, half-sleeves, boat neck, splash of red, 50's retro. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteHalf sleeves and boat neck are one of my favourite combinations.
