A Pervasive Aroma

'He felt assured of his welcome, however, when he saw the studied half-light in the salon and noticed the almost invisible table from which rose a pervasive aroma of slow-ripening peaches, of red cantaloup melon cut in slices the shape of crescent moons, and of black coffee poured over crushed ice.' What would be in your perfect summer feast? This sounds very close to mine...

  1. What a beautiful image! Lovely peaches like those would definitely be in my feast, as would strawberries and cherries, and probably a few good cheeses and a crusty baguette. Yum yum!

  2. Swap the melon for nectarines and I'm there!

  4. Colette writes the most wonderful descriptive passages! My perfect summer feast would have to include potato salad and watermelon, for sure.

  5. I love summer pudding! Soft fruits - raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, encased in white bread which has been allowed to 'mature' in the fridge overnight and turned out onto a dish and served with whipped cream. Wonderful! And, being English, cucumber sandwiches (substituting cream-cheese-with-chives for butter), and elderflower coridal to drink, and perhaps a delicioug, light, lemon sponge ...

  6. Birdie - ooh crusty baguette and cheese.
Tonia - I'll add nectarines too the feast.
hiphip - Some pink lemonade yes please.
Anbolyn - I love descriptive passages - especially of food and flowers.
galant - mmm summer pudding is delcious. I must make it one day but everytime I think of doing so I'm reminded of my parents arguing (which they rarely did) about how best to weigh it all down!

  7. I love descriptive passages, as does Anbolyn, of food and flowers, but also of rooms. I once sought out a book which I'd read in childhood simply because of a description of a room in it and the lemon verbena bush which flowered outside and scented that particular room.

  8. galant ooh yes rooms and flowers. I think I'm alot more aware of such passages since having this blog and that will stay with me even if I stop blogging whenever that may be.
