I was saddest about leaving the small area of London I/we'd lived in than the flat. In the last few days it was when walking along the streets near our flat that I felt nostalgic. This poem came to my mind. It's another one from my mother, sent during one of my many 'dating the wrong man' times. So in some ways it doesn't fit with the emotions of moving... but yet it is the fact that I walked down another street that I met Warmth and that now we're moving on together.
1. I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the pavement, I fall in.
I am lost... I am helpless, it isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find my way out.
2. I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the pavement.
I pretend I don't see it. I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
But it isn't my fault.
3. I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the pavement.
I see it is there. I still fall in... it's a habit.
My eyes are open
I know where I am
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.
4. I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the pavement.
I walk around it.
5. I walk down another street.

That's conjures up such a wonderful image! I quite like moving (lots of early practice) but the areas we move from always prove the hardest wrench
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful poem! It says so much about learning from your mistakes, and sometimes it takes a very long time to get to the 'walking down another street' stage.
ReplyDeleteI really like this! I think I will save this poem. It definitely speaks to me!
