unwholesome food

Today's #shareadvent is 'Carry out a family tradition or start a new one.' Each Christmas we gather new traditions. Maybe this year's is a Christmas tea with Granny Warmth at our home.

'every year at Compton Bobbin the German and Sussex customs were made to play their appointed parts. Thus the Christmas Tree, Christmas stockings and other activities of Santa Claus, and the exchange through the post of endless cards and calenders (German); the mistletoe and holly decorations, the turkeys, the boar's head, and a succession of carol singers and mummers (Sussex Roman Catholic); and the unlimited opportunity to over-eat on every sort of unwholesome food washed down with honest beer, which forms the groundwork for both schools of thought, combined to provide the ingredients of Lady Bobbin's Christmas Pudding.' What are your Christmas traditions?

  1. It's not a very uplifting one, but when my siblings and I were in college, we started ignoring the real Christmas breakfast and eating the cookies instead. Cookies for breakfast has become a long-standing tradition, passed down to the nieces and nephews...though they're too old to believe our great-grandparents did so, too. :) And Christmas music! My dad always made tapes full of all kinds of music and it's the sound of the holidays for me. Merry Christmas, Joan, and all best wishes for the new year!

  2. Thank you so much for taking part in Share Advent, I have really enjoyed all of your posts throughout December. We are starting a new tradition of setting up the train set around the tree amongst all the presents so I am impatiently waiting for George to be fast asleep first! (It is taking a very long time!)

Lots of love and wishing you a very happy Christmas. I hope we will see each other in 2013. Anna x

  3. Our breakfast always includes homemade scones or coffee cake with orange juice and coffee for present opening. We munch on cookies all day. I love the traditions. Merry Christmas!
