'It was better there, the woods were unchanged and dim, and still seemed to wrap one in an underwater atmosphere of green warmth, scattered with dusty stars of sunlight that had eaten through the thick delicately patterned ceiling. Deep in the woods there was a clearing, where the sky was a piece of bright colour, like a silken tent stretched across the gap in the trees.' Jocelyn Playfair A house in the country

I have the same mad desire, for the record. And I just found this book in the university library! The grey Persephones aren't sold or libary-ed here, so I'm borrowing every one that I can. It's very exciting!
ReplyDeleteAudrey - I hope you really enjoy it - I loved reading it.
DeleteOoh yes! I think I may have to go down to the woods today after reading this!
ReplyDeleteTonia - hope you had fun in the leaf filled woods this weekend.
DeleteWhat is it about this season that just makes you want to be outside? More so, even, than in summer. I love that extract.
ReplyDeleteVintage Reading - Yes you're so right. Is it the desire to make sure every moment of good weather and daylight is used before the rain and darkness descends.
DeleteSuch a lovely passage! I can feel the silken tent stretched above me.
ReplyDeleteI own a copy of 'A House in the Country' - I now have the desire to start reading it right away.
Anbolyn -Oh do there are so many wonderful passages in it & the characters are lovely as well.
